Unlike competitors equipment , Smart Reels are supplied to the end user as a complete fully tested equipment package consisting of the reel, shooter (Line Setter), associated controls, Tachometer and all necessary valving including hook timer.

Smart Reels introduced the concept of a one station operation for the whole system, reducing the required number of operators.

All smart reels have a common design and use the same line setter.

Smart Reels are massively strong and built to last. Every component is designed and built to the highest standards, and the finished product has been tested for years in the warm corrosive environment of the tropical pacific.

In order to provide the end user with rapid, easy access to spare parts and to simplify service, we use standard off the self components wherever possible.

Our new series reels are l00 % Aluminium and Stainless Steel.

Smart Reel 2 Aluminium Series®

Because of the growing demand for lighter longline equipment for smaller vessels and strong heavy duty equipment for larger vessels Seamech has developed an all aluminium reel called Smart Reel 2®.

Features:

  • The core, end flanges and frame are all constructed of aluminium of different tensile grades to suit their application. All are chosen for their suitability for use in the harsh marine environment.
  • All fastening and fixings are of stainless steel except in components manufactured by others i.e motors and couplings.
  • The "Smart Reel 2 Aluminium Series" Drum is mounted on a full length stainless steel shaft and this is all carried on quality self aligning bearings.
  • Our level layer bearings are sealed to give longer life and less maintenance.
  • Most wearing components are re-conditionable and unit replacement is not always necessary, as is with some of the competitors equipment.
  • Our one price manifolds on the reel motor and shooter motor have environmentally sealed covers to protect the high tech cartridge valves so that the purchasers investment is protected from corrosion. We care about your investment.
  • As with our steel series reel, off the shelf components are used in the construction where ever possible, these parts are readily available to reel owners all over the world in their own countries.
  • Our control manifolds do not allow servere hydraulic pulsing during during braking and this gives the hoses longer life.
  • High quality rubber type couplings are used to protect the motor from physical shock generated by starting and stopping the reel, during hauling and setting.
  • Our re-designed line setters now incorporate a belt to hold the monofilament onto the driving wheel. This has the advantage that the monofilament cannot jump out of the line setter, one of the major problems associated with conventional type line-setters.
  • Our guarantee is as it has always been. We guarantee our equipment and workmanship for one year. The equipment supplied by others i.e motors etc. carry their own manufacturers guarantees.
  • The systems require a 15KM -20HP to operate efficiently.
  • The system requires a hydraulic pump to pump 50ltrs - (12 g.p.m) of oil per minute at a pressure of 130bar (1800 PSI).

Seamech reels come complete with the directional control valve and a flow (speed) control valve that is not charged as an extra.

Our line setters also complete with a tachometer that is charged as an additional item by other manufacturers.

We also manufacture and supply hook timers, long line blocks and bins to compliment our equipment.

Please note line capabilities are approximate as loosely wound line reduces the holding capacity of the reel. It may not be possible to hold the line capacities as described above on the initial wind on. However once the reel has fished for a short time a topping up the monofilament on the reel will give full capacity.

All fastenings are of stainless steel and all aluminium is high quality marine grade alloy. Stainless steel is used in the construction of our SMART REEL 2 Aluminium series reels except for bearing housings and motors as these are not available in non ferrous material.

The level layer shafts are supported on polycarbonate housed, corrosion free greasable sealed bearings. The complete level layer assembly is capable of being adjusted in height to allow for flexibility of reel mounting locations, line recovery heights and therefore tends to eliminate loading on the level layer line guiding mechanism.

The complete unit is then painted with epoxy two pack before being coated with two coats of recoatable polyurethane paint.
